Great Blue Herons have a wide wing span of up to 7ft and slate blue and grey flight feathers. They can soar and glide like eagles and migrate very long distances in winter, to Mexico, the Caribbean and as far as South America.
If you spot a Great Blue Heron in flight this summer you may also hear it’s distinctive call, a loud distinguished croak. Great Blue Herons are found in most of North America, including Alaska. Watch out for them while camping in Saskatchewan this summer.
