Great Blue Herons the largest species in North America

The Great Blue Heron is the largest species of heron in North America.  Distinctive because of their size they stand 4ft tall and can weight up to 6lbs.  Their feathers are mostly white with slate grey-blue spots and slat-like flight feathers.  They have  an elongated neck and long yellow bill, up to 6″ long.  Great Blue Herons are sometimes mistaken for Sandhill Cranes.  Look for Great Blue Herons while camping in Saskatchewan this summer but be kind and don’t disturb their nests or habitat.
